Chamaeleonidae

Chameleons belong to the lizard family and are a kind of reptiles. They belong to the family Chamaeleonidae and are about 160 species of them. The unique features of a chameleon lizard are its long tongue and its mobile eyes with a parrot-like foot.Its dramatic feature is the ability to change colour from time to time.

Majority of chameleons lives in Madagascar and Africa, but there is also some species found in India, Northern Africa, Sri Lanka, and Southern Europe. It is a tropical rainforest animal and mostly live up in the trees. But there are also some species that live on the ground, drier such as deserts and savannah grasslands. Chameleons can change their pigments, because it has got special pigment cells under their skin. Different species can change their colour like green, orange, blue, black, yellow, and blue or pink and also colour often changes its moods.

Leptotyphlops humilis - Blind Snake


This species resembles like an earthworm and lives on the underground in burrows under the surface of every continent except Antarctica. Unlike earthworms, blind snakes have backbones and tiny scales. It has no use for vision because its eyes are mostly vestigial. The snake's skull is thick to permit burrowing, and it has a spine at the end of its tail that it uses for leverage. Its length is usually less than 30 cm and is as thin as an earthworm. The western blind snake is pink, brown, shiny, purple, cylindrical and blunt at both ends, and has light-detecting black eyespots. This species and its family are fluorescent under low frequency ultraviolet light or black light.

Rain Forest Dragon


Rain Forest Dragon is found in both upland and lowland rainforest, and is often seen around Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine.It is restricted to the rainforests of northern Queensland in Australia. It has very enlarged cheek scales, a prominent crest, and a yellow dewlap under its chin. Adults are sexually dimorphic, with males larger than females and having larger, blockier heads.

It spends the greater part of its time hanging on the trunks of trees, usually at around head height, although daily movements can exceed up to 100 meters’. When approached, it will usually move around to the opposite side of the tree, keeping the trunk between it and its harasser. Diet consists mainly of invertebrates, with earthworms making up a relatively high proportion. Small fruits and vertebrates are also occasionally consumed. Reproduction is via eggs, with clutch sizes varying from one to six eggs. Females in lowland populations may lay more than one clutch in a season.

Both males and females are appear to be territorial, with males defending an area of around 1,000 square meters. Female territories are smaller, with male territories often containing the territories of more than one female. Lizards commence activity at dawn and cease activity at dusk, remaining active even during rains. Activity is highly seasonal, all but cease during the cooler months, when lizards move into the rainforest shelter.

Australian Emu


Emu is a prehistoric and national bird of Australia that originates about 80 million years ago and it is a second largest bird in the world because of its height. In 1930’s and 1950’s Emu-bird were imported into the United States, but today exporting Emu bird from Australia is strictly prohibited. Emu looks brown in color and a flightless bird, but it can run very fast, up to 30 miles per hour using its strong leg and looks brown in color. Its species name is Dromaius novaehollandiae. The emu bird is a member of the ratite family along with ostrich and kiwi.

Emu is also a good swimmer and its wings are only one-tenth length of its body. They have 3 toes; the underside of each toe is flattened with a broad pad and it includes two main calls: a gutteral grunt and a throbbing drum. Skin on head and neck has free of feathers and has a bluish tinge. Intensity of this color varies according to the season of the year, behavior of the nearby birds and changes in their surroundings. Usually, Emu's lives up to 40 years.

In nature, its nest is a shallow hole by a bush and lined with grass and leaves. . Emus are raise throughout the world and popular bird in worldwide because of its height and unique qualities. Emu eat flowers, green vegetation, insects, fruits, and seeds. It loves to eat caterpillars. Swallow large stones into gizzard will be helpful for grinding process. Emu requires good water daily. Like human beings, Emu also requires 3 times food per day.
